THE TEAM
'Bloodborn' lead writer
James Bassett
James is the lead writer on 'Bloodborn', with the characters and story concept being his idea. In fact, the whole company was his idea, so a lot of the characters in Top Shelf's comic books will be James originals! He's always been a storyteller at heart, obsessed with fantasy worlds, cool characters and great stories, in whichever form they present themselves. His favourite fictional worlds as a kid were the beautiful universes of Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Skulduggery Pleasant and Doctor Who. As he's explored the world of comics more over the last few years, he sensed that the medium could be a good way to tell his stories, but he is also open to the idea of writing novels in the future, potentially adaptations of Top Shelf's comic series'! He is currently obsessed with the cinema, Avatar, Marvel Rivals, Marvel Snap & Assassins Creed. He is also trying (and failing) to learn the entire Five Nights at Freddy's timeline inside and out.
'Bloodborn' and 'One' co-writer
Zain Azhar
Zain is the co-writer on 'Bloodborn', who's been mostly responsible for translating James' ideas and drafts into a script that makes sense! Zain also co-founded Top Shelf with James, so they are really both the brains behind the whole operation. Zain is a talented writer (especially of dialogue!) and has a great eye for translating ideas into a script, whilst also chipping in with an idea or two of his own. The comics wouldn't be possible without him, really (we won't flatter him too much), and he's had lots of experience writing scripts for his Lego short films (they're cool, we promise). He is currently obsessed with Marvel - Blade & Daredevil in particular - and Assassins Creed (can you tell why they're friends?)
Grimm is an actor and writer from Newark, New Jersey. Having been friends with Zain for a few years, he’s always shared his love for storytelling and bringing ideas to life. ‘One’ is his brainchild, and he’s blended elements from his Hispanic heritage into aspects of the character, making One a reflection of not only himself, but the entire culture he’s grown up apart of. Grimm is a huge anime and manga fan, so he also incorporates elements of these media into his writing, especially the action-packed scenes. We have big plans for the future of One, and you’ll have to follow the character’s first adventure to find out where he’s going next!
'One' lead writer
Grimm Roa
John is a writer from Florida and has been friends with Zain for a few years. He has always dreamt of finding a way to bring the story of ‘Even & Odd’ to life. Having struggled to find the perfect medium for it, James invited John onto the Top Shelf team, hoping to help him turn the idea into reality! Perhaps a comic book was the way to tell the story of James & Bella, the protagonists of the intense espionage romance, set in a world where everybody seems to have superpowers – except for them! ‘Even & Odd’ is fundamentally a story about underdogs, and how even the most regular people can make a difference in a world that’s anything but regular.
'Even and Odd' lead writer
John Allen
Meet everyone on the Top Shelf team, from writers & artists to logo designers & more!
Tatiana Bulavo
Tatiana is the lead artist on 'Bloodborn', and has done all of the panel art, lettering and colouring!
This makes the comic as much a product of her super hard work as anything, and we're very proud
to have had her on board to leave her stamp on 'Bloodborn', and for having faith in our idea. Tatiana is a huge fan of Elder Scrolls, and she began drawing way back when she created her own original character, Wu, and wanted to bring them to life! She began taking painting seriously in 2021, so she has had plenty of experience in the world of art!
'Bloodborn' lead artist
Flinn Douglas
'One' lead artist
Flinn is a full-time comic artist & illustrator from Brazil, who specializes in both digital and
traditional artwork. He has had years of experience in the field, especially having worked on comic paneling professionally since 2022. We are very excited to have Flinn on board, and we can’t wait to share his work with you all when ‘One’ Issue 1 releases on February 28th, 2026.
Juan Pangrazi
'Even and Odd' lead artist
Juan is a professional artist from Argentina, specializing in manga & comic art. He has had years of experience working on commissions, storyboarding and character design. We believed his
realistic style and experience with drawing people & real-life settings was perfectly suited to the world of ‘Even & Odd’, which juggles lots of human (and superhuman) characters in a single story.

Girania
‘Bloodborn’ logo, concept & cover artist, ‘One’ concept artist
Girania is our concept artist for 'Bloodborn', and they also did the logo & front cover for the issue. They are a writer, artist and animator with over 6 years of experience in concept & comic art. We are super proud to have had them helping on the comic - so much so that we enlisted their help again with concept art for our second comic series, 'One'!
‘One’ colourist, ‘Bloodborn’ cover artist
Valeria Anisimova
Valeria is an artist from Russia, and has had lots of experience working on commissions and digital art, primarily using social media as her platform. She is adding the colours to Flinn’s artwork on ‘One’ and has also completed the front cover art for ‘Bloodborn’ Issue 2, which takes some very clever inspiration from a very famous horror movie poster! Keep an eye on our socials for when we share the cover!
Devon Hodge
‘One’ concept artist
Devon is a concept artist from the USA and has had lots of experience in digital artwork of characters like Black Panther, Thor, Blade and Ironheart. Devon helped us with sketch-style concept art for ‘One’, where he created character sketches for One, Yaya & Navaja, which you can check out on our social media pages!
'One’ cover artist
Tezco13
Tezco is our cover artist for ‘One’ Issue 1. He is a comic book artist with lots of experience in sequential art (paneling) and has previously worked on official cover artwork for none other than Image Comics!
Nina Aguilera
‘One’ logo designer
Nina is an artist who also primarily uses social media as the main platform to share her work. She adores Tom Hiddleston, and you can see all her amazing work on her Instagram page. Nina helped us design the logo for ‘One’, creating a perfect cyber-futuristic design that fits the character and looks fantastic on the front cover if we don’t say so ourselves!
